It's not only the referees as individuals. It's the rules and regulations they have to stick to. The rules that force them to show a card to every player who pricks his nose or coughes in the wrong situation.

I'm glad that I don't know anything about football anymore since I stopped playing myself, because in my calculations Germany gets kicked out in the quarter finals and the Netherlands win the cup. I'd hate to be proven right, though the latter (Holland winning) seems acceptable to me.
