Blind Guardian’s Other Classics: A Blind Guardian playlist

#1 Post by wade-newb » 27 Aug 2019 00:24

Hey all!
I spent a few hours working on a playlist of some of my favourite Blind Guardian songs that I feel are a little under-appreciated. This was a little hard, because BG fans tend to love everything they make, but specifically here are songs that are either never/hardly ever played live, don’t get spoken about often, and generally don’t make many favourite lists. I’ve worked hard on the song choices as well as the song order in terms of transitions and mood, so I felt motivated to share it. The spotify link is (https://open.spotify.com/user/31djq3uf5 ... ueBjcCq2GQ), and a full list of the songs is below:

1. Gandalf’s Rebirth
2. Ashes of Eternity
3. Otherland
4. Road Of No Release
5. Theatre of Pain
6. The Throne
7. Journey Through The Dark
8. The Soulforged
9. Altair 4
10. Out On The Water
11. Valkyries
12. A Past And Future Secret
13. Thorn
14. The Script for my Requiem
15. Hall of the King
16. Sacred Mind
17. The Martyr
18. Sadly Sings Destiny
19. Lost in the Twilight Hall
20. Control the Divine
21. The Eldar
22. The New Order
23. Trial By The Archon
24. Ride Into Obsession
25. Wait For An Answer
26. The Piper’s Calling
27. Blood Tears
28. Follow the Blind
29. Goodbye My Friend
30. Fast To Madness
31. The Quest For Tanelorn
32. And The Story Ends
33. The Holy Grail
34. Straight Through The Mirror
35. A Dark Passage
36. Ashes to Ashes
37. Another Holy War
38. Lionheart
39. Under The Ice
40. Prophecies
41. Distant Memories
42. Weird Dreams

Hope you enjoy as much as I did making it!!
I can't think of anything clever to put here.

Great list, though I don't think that some of the songs are exactly underrated, like:

A Past And Future Secret
The Script for my Requiem
Blood Tears
Prophecies
And The Story Ends
Under The Ice

But indeed they need more recognation :)

Definitely! Imaginations is essentially all classic songs, but I did want to include something off of each album, and in other cases the song just fit that particular moment in the playlist so well I had to include it 😱

Good list - around half of them have been played live, but either not in a long while, not more than a few times, or a combination of the two.

Somewhere Far Beyond is a beloved song that’s never played, so perhaps with that criteria it qualifies. Doom is also up there - though again, fans seem to enjoy it but it’s not played live. Doom is also underrated in the sense that people who dislike BTRM tend to critique it for lacking “heavier, less ‘happy’” songs, and they somehow ignore or forget (or simply haven’t heard) Doom.

Afterthoughts: Isn’t LITTH adored by fans and, if not a set list staple, at least played on every tour? Also, When Sorrow Sang - perfect contender as well.

Gotta go with Ryu's final half-sentence there - When Sorrow Sang is one of the best songs Guardian have ever written, AND it's about Beren and bloody Luthien, and still noone gives a shit about it!

Otherwise, the list seems decent, although I think neither APaFS nor Script are really overlooked, pretty much with almost all of IftOS. I remember that some ten years ago everybody was complaining that they'd always play two thirds of that album per show :D

Also, if you include Trial by the Archon, follow it up with Wizard's Crown. That's one song. And talking about BoF, where's Guardian of the Blind? :D
R.I.P. The Following - The page may have deceased, but Followers will be Followers until the world will be no more!

So true. It has possibly the most euphonic chorus of any song I've ever heard. There's so much going on phonologically. So much near and perfect consonance and assonance, I love it.

Caught in the afterlife, I've gone too far
When sorrow sang softly and sweet
The air's filled with tears full of sadness and grief
When sorrow sang softly and sweet
'Nowhere has this renunciation of man's transience been more joyous or uplifting than in the medium of airport carpets.'
