Germany about to ban paintball

#1 Post by Joost » 07 May 2009 17:14

http://news.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2B ... 40022.html

Yes, you read that correctly, because paintball apparently 'simulates killing' and 'trivializes violence'. By doing this, they think they can prevent school shootings from happening in the future... yeah right.

What's next? Banning chess because it simulates war?
You charge each other for the time and breath it takes to say 'good morning',
But the truth is slowly dawning -- things are getting out of hand,
We all pursue our shattered dreams along the roads to our own ruin --
Watch our empires sink and wash away like castles made of sand.
And so cast off the lies that are your lives and find the truth within.

Wow, the censorship in Germany is getting worse and worse. I realized it was bad when I saw how many album covers get censored over there, but this is even more ridiculous.

It's always easier to ignore social causes and blame it on silly entertainment.

In that case they should ban toy guns too. All these kids playing cowboys and indians is just glorifying violence.

Well, it's not so far us to see Blind Guardian banned. According to Host Banner of Germania:
"Every song of this satanic band includes anti-christian stuff and bloody violence that glorifizes killing a human being- or little demons-; can't you dumm-asses see how dangerous a song that's called "Battlefield" is. So, after a while of research on that band, we decided to ban every power metal group that provokes rebel and leads a stable country to chaos."

Okay, personally I'm against all kinds of these paintball and plastic gun stuff; but the aim of a government is not to forbid everything that they can't solve, actually in my opinion their goal must grant the security of it's citizens and protect the personal rights of them.

German stupidity at its best. Reminds me, that we had to go to the Netherlands to play "Laserquest", because in Germany it was banned, for the exact same reason and that was about 10 or 12 years ago.

Funny you should mention it. I was just thinking to myself "George Carlin would have a thing or two to say about this if he was still alive."

Paintball??!! Are they crazy or sth?
You could say that War Movies and movies with guns in general could affect someone .... Games like Hitmat could too...
But Paintball? Ok. You are holding a gun, but it's almost like the running and catching game. Who gets the other first.
Paintball is less violent than most of videogames. In videogames, you may even beat someone, or kill hundreds of people in one game.

It's only a measure that won't have any result at all I think
Maybe they are doing that only to say that after the killings at that school a month ago, they are trying to make progress. But who expects that to work
:?:

But still, every child plays dodgeball in Elementary School. And in Germany, it's even called Völkerball (something like Peoples Ball, i.e. two peoples fighting each other). So it's evenr acist here. And there isn't even an age restriction.

Yes, that game, and it should most definitely be banned for various reasons including the ones you named.

Just like chess, and minesweeper (which, of course, trivializes the horror of minefields).

Videogames are also heavily censored in Germany. Games are edited (green blood instead of red for example) or put on age restrictions of 18+ which then inclines that they can't be sold except for the most outrageous of specialty stores if im not mistaken.

I think we should ban German movie dubbing instead!

This is what we get from incompetent, spineless, dumb, uninformed, lazy, corrupt, and overall shitty politicians in our current governemnt. To serve the people - yea right!

Pieces of shit that should be thrown out of office with no questions asked.

Internet censoring, paintball ban, government unsupervised spying on its citizens ... great times ahead.

Like... everyone?
Doch nach massivem öffentlichen Druck geben viele Parlamentarier den Plan nun auf. Abgeordnete berichten, dass sie in den vergangenen Tagen Hunderte wütende E-Mails und Briefe zum geplanten Verbot bekommen haben.
For Non-German speakers:
'But after massive pressure from the public, a lot of parlamentarians are abandoning that plan now. [Some] delegates relate that they have recieved hundreds of furious letters and e-mails about the planned ban in the last days."

Thanks, but if I consider working as a translator at some point, I also need some precision in the wording :P (And I shouldn't have to think about how to spell 'precision' )

I'm quite happy they dropped it, too. Had they gone on with it I would have started fearing for LARP very much.
