Forum will be offline temporarily

#1 Post by Joost » 15 Jun 2009 12:39

Hey everyone,

Finally we have reached the point where phpBB 3 will be installed on this forum. This, however, means that the existing forum and its contents will have to be converted to the new forum software, and because of that, this forum will be offline temporarily, probably for a couple of days. Just so you know!

edit: The forum will be closed *some time this week*. An exact time/date is, as of now, unavailable.
You charge each other for the time and breath it takes to say 'good morning',
But the truth is slowly dawning -- things are getting out of hand,
We all pursue our shattered dreams along the roads to our own ruin --
Watch our empires sink and wash away like castles made of sand.
And so cast off the lies that are your lives and find the truth within.
-- Martin Walkyier

willthere be any changes or will the forum itself be kept as it is, besides the new software?

Avatars will actually be enabled. ;) Same for images, I guess, but I guess most of the people here are just mature enough to not spam the board with them. On most forums, they are, so I don't see a reason why they shouldn't be here.

Other than that, and the difference in interface that is inherent in phpBB3, things will basically stay as they are.

Someone already forgot about my all but unrealistic thought that there'd be these "define previous poster with 10Mb panorama photo" threads... :D

i guess for initial megabyte-slurping posters, the quiet calm of decent text-based flaming and trolling will return...

I'll miss the plain look of this forum.

But I'm also excited about trolls that will swarm here and share their weird opinions :P

In that case, you socialist motherfuckers better be ready for about a thousand 1920x1200 American flags. Per day.

Avatars will be nice.

Pictures on the other hand...well let´s hope people on this board will use them responsible, because I remember that one guy on another board, who had a giant (and I literally mean it, GIANT) picture of Chuck Schuldiner in his signature. So even a short post ("lol", e.g.) took almost half the page. :?

If people do things like that, I can edit their signatures and remove the pictures from them!

I've also known a forum or two, where images were only disabled in signatures...

To avoid messing up the layout, another forum i visit has an auto-script re-sizing images to max 600pix. mebbe a good idea to avoid hundreds of american flags 1920x1000 a day?

I'm ok with avatars and occasional images, but I propose a ban of pictures in signatures - be it thanks to a forum feature, or by "friendly advice" and admins' intervention if needed.
