Great news... although I didnt really see any of the show of Maiden in 2008 save what they showed on the youtubes next to the stage.

Oro, you must know this... what is the theme of the new Iron Maiden tour? Will there be a new album to promote, are they going to highlight four other old albums, or is this the usual 'we-do-another-greates-hits-tour-because Lauren-needs-to-go-to-college-and-Bruce-bought-a-new-plane-on-ebay'-tour?

The latter  reading between the normal PR stuff of the press releases, it can be deduced that this is a summer tour for the heck of it, and that it looks like this will be shaping up like in 2003: summer tour with a random greatest hits setlist with no particular meaning behind it, and proper tour for the new album during the autumn...

Cool. Lets hope that Maiden learned from the 2008-tour that people love to hear old stuff they havent heard for a while. More Maiden-songs deserve to be dusted off. Hell... it will be the 30th annyversary of their debut album. Thats the kind of thing that makes a fanboy dream.

What I find even more interesting, is the fact that Maiden is headlining the Sonicsphere festival. Three countries confirmed so far (in 2009 Sonicsphere attended six countries).

Billing: Heaven & Hell, Motley Crue, Iggy & The Stooges, Slayer, Anthrax and Alice Cooper.

I am so hoping for this tour to attent the Netherlands (including H&H).

15 years after the release of “Wildhoney” and their “Wildhoney”- headlinershow at Wacken, this is gonna be the first and last time that front man Johan Edlund and his guys are going to perform the whole record on one single show! The crowd can expect an amazingly spherical light show as much as the original versions of classics like “Pocket Size Sun” and “Gaia”.

The band is very excited to play such a unique show and can’t wait for it to happen! This event is gonna be a must for everyone who is into atmospheric sounds. Don’t miss it!

See ya all @ Wacken 2010

Quite a good list so far. The really special bands (ron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue) are really speacial, and the WOA-stapes (UDO, Grave Digger, Primal Fear, Edguy, Wasp, Strato) are once again very welcome. I ordered my ticket (the addition of Iron Maiden won me over) and am once again looking forward to the festival.

they still don't get it:
if there's one thing that belongs into the metal bag of each and every year...it's earplugs

i don't think that they are really considering banning cars...

Earplugs... good one. I proposed a running-order... Put the two of them together and you really have all you need.

Hey Simon, btw, will you also be joining us at Wacken? Because in that case I'll be bringing a bottle of Jack to share with you!

yes i will - and no, you shouldn't!
it made me "miss" half of running wild's farewell show ;)

while you get earplugs for free at every concert in switzerland - you hardly can find some elsewhere...and if you do, you have to pay for it
(and yes, i know - bringing your own earplugs to a concert would be a solution, too)

But point taken. How bout I bring a bottle on Wednesday? No interesting bands then, so all the time to enjoy it. 8)

You must be talking about Delain. I had my break when they played between Winterborn and Sonata Arctica this month.

Well, Delain was pretty good on the tour of their first album, and I am confident that hasnt changed.

But yeah, they are one of those bands that I will probably miss out on due to beer-drinking activities and a well-I-can-see-them-at-any-other-festival-if-i-miss-them-today-mentality.

i want to bet a decent amount of money on it it's due to the changing policies and mega- increase in size...

Re: Wacken 2010

Posted: 05 Jan 2010 21:54
by The Rider Of Rohan
which policies did they change?

I dont think the increase in size has anything to do with it. They didnt raise the attendants for next years edition and the last, so the amount of visitors for next years edition will be the same as for the editions that did sell out.

Perhaps it is just the economy, or people needed their money for Modern Warfare 2.

Hello all, how are you doing?
I just got my tickets to Wacken 2010. It will be my 2nd time there. Does anyone of you know if can get in and out of the festival area at will by car? Or should I just park there and only leave at the end? I ask this because this year I won't be camping. I'll stay at a small hotel in a city nearby, Hohenwestedt, I hope.

I know that most consider the camping half of the fun (or even more) and it's a great atmosphere and all, but I just don't want to deal with all the camping equipment while I'm traveling through Germany and Greece after the festival.

Thoughts anyone?

Re: Wacken 2010

by The Rider Of Rohan
I'd say: ditch the hotel-reservation and go camping anyway.... A tent and a sleepingbag can easily fit into your car, and camping is about 70% of the Wacken-experience... The bands are just a small part of it.

But to answer your question: it entirely depends on which campside you park your car and what happens afterwards. If you arrive on Wednesday and park your car, and somebody else arrives on that afternoon and places his tent on the space that you need to drive your car over to get away, you'll be stuck. There's also the chance that you'll be directed to a spot which lies next to a one-way street, and knowing that new cars will arrive pretty much non stop until Saturday, chances are you wont be able to get away. Oh, and you really should avoiding drinking and driving in the first place. Aside from what could happen, you'll be pretty sure you get busted.

So all in all, I would't park the car in Wacken if I were you. If you insist on a hotel, park the car there and take a taxi or a bus to the festival-area.

Rider,

Thanks for the tips.
I thought that the festival had an exclusive area for parking. That's why I was thinking about the car/hotel option.
I didn't really think that traffic would be an issue because I know most people stay in the camping site.
I'll give more thought on my plans. Thank you.

Nope, the parkingarea was canned when they stopped selling 1 day tickets.

Raven is confirmed, btw, together with a lesbian ACDC coverband.

And it's almost sold out.

You really want to know?

The next day we were sitting at the breakfast-table in our party-tent (sipping orangensaft, all hung over) when a woman left my tent and took the walk of shame across the campsite. Then Arjen told me how the night before I walked around the campsite, asked him if he had any condoms left, then after he went back to his tent I unpolitely refused them. From what I heard I told him I changed me mind because I realised already got a BJ and couldn't be bothered to put any more effort into it. Apparently after that I went to take a leak, strolled back to sleep and started snoring.

I admit that it wasn't the most charming side of me that night, but at least it was a good story.

The swedish hard rockers ASTRAL DOORS will play at this year's Wacken and will make fans of hard rock and classic heavy metal very happy. Existing since 2003, their musical similarity to Black Sabbath, Dio or Deep Purple brought them a huge fan community and surely will convince you, too. Don't miss!
