That was a Dutchism, by way of saying.

And just think: he's now in his mid 40s and has missed many of the best years of his life. His 20s, gone. His 30s, gone. All the joys of young adults are ones that he will never have, because his mind was trapped inside his immobile body.

One of the most horrible things I can imagine...
Free are those who walk away from setting suns
Free are those who laugh at chains that held them bound
Free are those who conquer in vain but won't stop to run
Battered and down you pick up your pieces
To rise as one!

Yes, but even if they knew he was conscious, he would have spent his life within the confines of a hospital. So probably his 20s wouldn't have been "the best years of his life" and he would be lacking many of the "joys of young adults", I guess.
You charge each other for the time and breath it takes to say 'good morning',
But the truth is slowly dawning -- things are getting out of hand,
We all pursue our shattered dreams along the roads to our own ruin --
Watch our empires sink and wash away like castles made of sand.
And so cast off the lies that are your lives and find the truth within.

I read about that case too! Awful.

Also today I read about a man being attacked by a bear in some zoo. The article linked to a graphic video clip about the incident. :?

I think the bear was wounded by a machine gun fire (by the police). Not sure if they can save it.

Found another article about it:

My guess is you didn't read the article, right? if you did, read better. The man is mentally disabled and probably could not have anticipated the danger he put himself into.

I didn't read the article, because I heard the story from my father. He forgot to mention the guy was mentally disabled though.

maybe he didn't know either. Anyway, the article doesn't tell how seriously disabled the man is, but i guess he would not have been without supervision. My only concern with the matter is: where was his supervisor at that specific time?

np: Metallica - One

(Somehow the original article reminded me of this, although obviously the setting is kind of different...)

Yep, the situation is the same, to be trapped in your own body without being able to do or say anything. When I read this, I was also thinking about the song. I believe that in the 30s a hospital was found in Austria with only this kind of patients. I don't think the personnel enjoyed their job.
