I am listening to Accept's newes single The Abyss. I had my reservations but I discovered, much too my surprise, that it's quite good. The new vocalist is a cross between the previous two ones, and the music is quite good, it's quite reminiscent of U.D.O.s Animal House record.

I'm still now sure if it wouldn't have been better if they laid the band to rest, but if there's a good album in the pipeline, it might just turn out for the best.

was on the latest Rock Hard DVD. I kind of like the song.

Yeah, that's one of the songs. Great video too - this is really all a metal-video needs: poses, closeups of guitarpicks and flames.

I saw them live a month ago, opening for AC/Dc, and the enw signer is also absolutely delivering the old stuff. I'm qutie excited about that album.

Just for the occasion I listened to Accept's 1989 Eat The Heat album with David Reece on vocals. It's a shame that the album didn't get the recognition it deserved, because it was a great hard rock album it itself. I still see why it failed. When I listen to Generation Clash it became very obvious that the album failed because the band tried to be something that Accept is not, namely a melodic hardrock band geared towards the American market.

Still, I can imagine to a degree how it must feel to be Wolf Hoffman. He has the capabilities of making music which appeals to large audiences, but made music for a long time with Udo, who is a cult singer and permanently ties the band to a certain style and a certain audience. When you listen to the live-performances with David Reece and try to forget about Udo for a while, you do realise the band has a lot of potential. Check out Screaming For A Love Bite with David Reece . If the band never toured with Udo before, this song could've been in arena's instead of venues.

So that's why in a way I still don't get why they take the path of most resistance and keep the name Accept. This new singer, he's great, and if they had him 20 or 30 years ago then perhaps Accept would have been much, much more than a cult thing from Germany.

I must say that I found the album Balls to the Wall surprisingly enjoyable. That's why I bothered to take a listen to those two new songs, and I'm surprised again. I might just buy this stuff... or at least download it until I think the time is right to buy it.

Why be surprised by Balls To The Wall? That album's a classic.

You might want to try out the other old Accept-albums from the eighties, as well as the whole U.D.O. discography. I grew up on those records and still cherish them dearly.

Because my interest for 80s heavy metal has grown quite recently. And I used to dislike Udo's voice.

The new song...Teutonic Terror...I'll give it a thumb's up. Wolfy sure has a killer tone going on this. The new singer...okay. Probably I'd like him more if I'd just've listened to the song instead of looking at him in the video. Uhm...yeah...he kinda looks like a hobo biker just rolled off the curb. But then...what does Udo look like? Heh.

As an aside, U.D.O.'s Dominator is a killer album. There's probably no way I'll dig the new Accept as much as that. Still, it's good to see Wolfy ands Accept back.

Every U.D.O. album is great. Okay, so Mean Machine had some weak parts but aside from that one every cd he released has been great.

It's nice to know that there are now two bands doing what they want to do: U.D.O. doing the hard-edged stuff and Accept venturing in a slightly more commercial direction. I think that in the end we, the fans, win out because of it.

I...I don't actually know all the U.D.O. albums (shame be upon me, yeah), but the recent ones have really...you know...knocked my socks off. So to speak.

Yep. Kinda like when Halford and Dickinson were out of Priest and Maiden. Err...well, not quite like that. Heh.

I like Eat the Heat too, now more so than 1989, as going for that 80s American AOR MTV sound wasn't really what I wanted from Accept (although I liked a lot of other bands doing it). I wanted Princess of the Night and Breaker, that hard, dark European sound. There were enough bands flooding the American market with what Eat the Heat offered. But in retrospect, I can dig most of that album now.

At roughly the same time U.D.O. released 'Faceless World' which was a keyboard-laden hardrock-album which actually contained great songwriting. It's very different from most of his material, but it's quite good.

I just noticed that Teutonic terror sometimes soudns like Freedom Call's hero nation. There's one riff that's very similar...

That's good, cause Hero Nation is one of my favourite FC songs
