The idea is that European countries are mapped onto states in the US that are somehow similar. E.g. more liberal countries in Europe are mapped onto more liberal states, and conservative countries on conservative states. Monaco, famous for its casinos, is mapped onto Utah, which has Las Vegas. The country Geogria is simply mapped onto the state with the same name. Turkey, a country on the border of Europe, known for having lots of immigrants in Europe, and lots of restaurants with the local cuisine in Europe, is mapped on Mexico, which plays a similar role w.r.t. America. Etc...Daijin wrote:Yeah! I'm all for discussing...
... but actually, I don't really get it.

You have a Garak quote in yer signature. Now I remember why you were the awesomest. Heh. And also, a much better moderator than the three stooges we have now. Hah-hah. Just kiddin' stooges. You know I loves you.Daijin wrote:Well, Germany and Michigan have at least one thing in common: a big and influential car industry.
I used to be able to point to any part of my body and tell what it is. But now? No way. Could be anything.Andreas wrote:I used to be able to point at any state on a map (without any names) and tell which one it is. I tend to forget useless things...
And there we have another similarity.West Virginia Mule wrote: Also, the Michigan with the "big and influential car industry" ain't what it once was. Ford is the only American car company left.
"Slightly similiar" ? Lolwut? http://allisonkilkenny.files.wordpress. ... rginia.gif West Virginia looks like a frog(to me at least), http://www.religiousintelligence.co.uk/ ... cyprus.gif Cyprus looks like a...i dont know, a blade maybe?ThePKH wrote:I wonder if there are any other reasons for comparing West Virginia and Cyprus than the fact that they are slightly similar in shape? Lol, not really. I must admit, you made me laugh xDWest Virginia Mule wrote:Are the Cyprus people toothless and dying of heart disease at 45? Do they drive rusty pickups with dead, bloody deer roped to the hood? Do they worship guns and tractors and auto mechanics like a religion? Do they have to do all their clothes shopping at the Fat 'n Fugly Inbred Warehouse? Are the unemployment lines three miles long? Do their towns and cities appear to be mired in a film of sludge and rust and smell of sewage? Will they still be voting for Robert Byrd ten years after he's dead? Do they live and die by faux tranference with the relative success and failure of the West Virginia Mountaineers football team? Are they small people with small minds living small lives? Do I despise my wasted life living amongst them but have always stayed because home is home is home, because the roots grow into branches, because circular thinking always brings you back to where you started?
If so, then yeah, there's a lot in common between Cyprus and West By God Virginia.
Yeah, and my first victim is youWest Virginia Mule wrote:People in Cyprus are probably all terrorists hell-bent on killing West Virginians.
Yes, but that's only because, in this picture, it is green!Energokinetic wrote: "Slightly similiar" ? Lolwut? http://allisonkilkenny.files.wordpress. ... rginia.gif West Virginia looks like a frog(to me at least)
Cyprus looks like a floating puddle of snot in a swimming pool. In that picture, I mean. In real life, I'm sure your pools are clean and entirely snot-free.Energokinetic wrote:Cyprus looks like a...i dont know, a blade maybe?

Do illegal aliens from Turkey sneak across Poland's border and demand Polish citizenship?
And...uh...anyone care to shed some light on the Texas/Poland connection? Just wondering since my ever-lovin' Euro heritage is mostly Polish. And I've always wanted to be a PolandFriedCriminal, ya know.
Would you be happier if it said FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia)?teo_guardian wrote:oh my God..macedonia..pfff..who made this?
I know, that's why I mentioned it. Teo_guardian is from Greece (or at least he wrote that), so I guessed that's why Macedonia bothered him.Joost wrote:The name FYROM only exists to kiss the asses of Greeks. Greece should just get over it and accept that most of the world would simply like to call that country Macedonia.
Is that a problem, really? Belgium also has a province Luxembourg, next to the country Luxembourg. Both the Netherlands and Belgium have a province Limburg (which border each other), and in Germany there's also a town Limburg. Nobody thinks of this as an issue or a problem in any way.teo_guardian wrote:but if FYROM is called macedonia then how should our macedonia be called?...i am also from macedonia(i live in athens though)..and now there is a country which claims that name...wtf?what was their problem with their previus name?
well at least they have part of that history..that's something..because we have the other guys from britain also who keep
the stones from parthenon there...what's the problem of all these countries?
